A playlist by Rachel Kaadzi Ghansah, to accompany her essay “A River Runs Through It” in the January/ February issue of the Believer, out now.

“The songs above were my fire for this piece. They remind me of Jimi Hendrix, Richard Nichols, and Electric Lady Studios. Some of these songs were recorded at Electric Lady Studios, some of these songs were recorded by Jimi Hendrix, some of them come from the musicians that Jimi loved and listened to, and the Tony Williams joint is the song that Richard Nichols asked to be played at his memorial. They all have one thing in common, and I say this often, across forms, decades, they all evidence the certain qualities of innovative genius, bittersweetness, and the sense of a lasting legacy that all great music tends to contain.

Thank you so much for listening. Yours with warmth, rkg”
